Bialetti Moka pot tips by Kriselda

Ain’t no greater than a Bialetti coffee maker! In the past years, the best coffee moments have been created with a Moka pot. I got my first Bialetti Moka pot ten years ago, and I dare say, that it would have easily lasted until today if I knew how to take care of it.

HEIROL has imported Bialetti products to Finland for 30 years and I was lucky enough to get hands-on instructions on how to take care of my dear Moka pot. Below, you’ll find tips straight from the headquarters, Casa HEIROL.

How to use and maintain a Bialetti Moka pot:

  1. Fill the boiler with water all the way up to the valve. Not more, not less.
  2. The ground coffee should not be pressed, but evenly distributed in the filter. (Note-to-self, when I’m playing the role of a master barista).
  3. Do not hold the handle when twisting to close or open. (My last pot may or may not have broken because of this).
  4. Wash with warm water only! This means no soap and no dishwasher, as the alkalinity of soap might damage the surface of the aluminum.
  5. Replace the filter, gasket, and funnel when needed for the best result. An old gasket will become brittle and hard over time, so make sure to keep an eye on it and switch it before this happens. The filter and funnel will remain in good condition for longer, as long as you remember to wash them properly after each use.

I would not have guessed, that Bialetti has these super handy induction plates! No need to switch your traditional Moka pot for a new one suitable for induction stovetops, as you can use the induction plate as an adapter if you happen to renew your stovetop.

With these tips, your Bialetti Moka pot could move on from one generation to another!
